Master Maintenance Property Service

Bathroom Renovations Melbourne – Expert Renovators Since 2009

Expert Bathroom Renovations Across Melbourne

Looking for a bathroom renovation that’s done right the first time? Master Maintenance has been transforming Melbourne bathrooms for over 15 years. We’re a licensed building company (DBL100162) with every trade you need under one roof – plumbing, tiling, electrical, waterproofing, plastering, and painting.

Our founder Milad personally manages every project from the first consultation through to handover. No project managers. No call centres. You deal directly with the person responsible for the quality of your renovation.

Whether you’re updating a tired 1980s bathroom, adding a modern ensuite, or converting to a walk-in wet room – we’ve got the experience, the licences, and the team to deliver it on time and on budget.

Why Choose Master Maintenance for Your Bathroom Renovation

Licensed Builder – Not Just a Handyman

Every Master Maintenance bathroom renovation is completed under our registered domestic builder’s licence (DBL100162). This means your renovation meets all Victorian Building Authority requirements, your waterproofing comes with a compliance certificate, and you have the consumer protections that come with using a licensed builder.

All Trades In-House

We don’t subcontract out and hope for the best. Our team handles plumbing, electrical, tiling, waterproofing, plastering, and painting. That means better coordination, consistent quality, and no finger-pointing between trades if something needs fixing.

Fixed-Price Quotes

We quote a price and stick to it. No provisional sums that blow out, no “we found something unexpected” surprises that double the bill. If we find an issue during demolition, we discuss it with you before any additional costs are incurred.

Milad Runs Every Project

When you call Master Maintenance, you speak to Milad. When the team arrives at your home, Milad is on site. When you have a question at 7pm on a Thursday, Milad answers the phone. That’s not a marketing promise – ask any of our clients.

15+ Years of Melbourne Renovations

We started in 2009 as a husband-and-wife team. Today, we have a dedicated crew of qualified tradespeople, but the approach hasn’t changed: show up on time, do the job properly, leave the site clean, and charge what we quoted.

Our Bathroom Renovation Services

Full Bathroom Renovations

Complete strip-out and rebuild. We remove everything – tiles, fixtures, vanity, bath, shower – and start fresh. New waterproofing, new plumbing, new electrical, new tiling, new fixtures. The works.

Small Bathroom Renovations

Melbourne’s older homes often have compact bathrooms. We specialise in making small spaces work harder – clever storage, space-saving fixtures, and layouts that feel bigger than they are.

Ensuite Renovations

Adding an ensuite to your master bedroom or updating an existing one. We handle the plumbing connections, waterproofing, and building work to create a private retreat.

Wet Room Conversions

Open-plan wet rooms are increasingly popular in Melbourne homes. We remove the shower screen and step, grade the floor for drainage, and waterproof the entire room to Australian Standard AS 3740.

Accessible Bathroom Design

Walk-in showers with zero threshold, grab rails, wider doorways, non-slip tiling, and adjustable shower heads. Designed for comfort and independence – whether for ageing in place or mobility needs.

Bathroom Tiling & Waterproofing

From floor-to-ceiling marble to feature walls with mosaic – we handle all tiling, including large-format porcelain, natural stone, and custom patterns. All waterproofing is completed to AS 3740 with a compliance certificate.

Our Renovation Process

We’ve refined this process over 15 years and hundreds of Melbourne bathrooms. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Free Consultation & Quote

Milad visits your home, measures the bathroom, discusses your vision, and provides a detailed, fixed-price quote. No obligation, no pressure. Most quotes are delivered within 48 hours.

Step 2: Design & Planning

We help you select tiles, fixtures, and fittings. We can work with your interior designer or recommend options based on your budget and style preferences. We confirm the layout, finalise the specifications, and lock in the start date.

Step 3: Demolition & Strip-Out

Our team removes existing tiles, fixtures, and fittings. We inspect the subfloor and framing for any moisture damage or structural issues. If we find anything, we discuss it with you before proceeding.

Step 4: Plumbing & Electrical Rough-In

Licensed plumbers relocate or install new hot and cold water lines, waste pipes, and drainage. Licensed electricians install new wiring for lighting, heated towel rails, exhaust fans, and power points. All to current Australian standards.

Step 5: Waterproofing

This is the most critical step – and the one where shortcuts cause the most damage. We apply waterproofing membrane to all wet areas in full compliance with AS 3740. You receive a waterproofing compliance certificate on completion.

Step 6: Tiling

Wall tiles, floor tiles, feature walls, niches, and shower recesses. We use premium adhesives and grouts, ensure level finishes, and take care with cuts around fixtures and edges.

Step 7: Fixture Installation & Handover

Vanity, toilet, shower, bath (if applicable), tapware, mirrors, accessories, towel rails, and lighting. We test everything, clean up, and hand you the keys to your new bathroom. The whole process typically takes 3-6 weeks depending on the size and complexity of your renovation.

Bathroom Renovation Cost in Melbourne

Every bathroom is different, but here’s a realistic guide based on our experience across Melbourne:

Renovation TypeTypical Cost Range
Budget/cosmetic refresh$10,000 – $18,000
Standard full renovation$18,000 – $35,000
Premium/luxury renovation$35,000 – $60,000+

What affects the cost?

  • Size – a 3sqm powder room costs less than a 10sqm family bathroom
  • Fixtures – builder’s range vs premium brands (Caroma, Grohe, Astra Walker)
  • Tiles – ceramic at $30/sqm vs natural stone at $150/sqm
  • Layout changes – moving plumbing adds cost; keeping the existing layout saves money
  • Structural work – removing walls, fixing subfloor damage, asbestos removal
  • Location – eastern suburbs (Toorak, Hawthorn, Camberwell) typically run 20-30% higher than northern suburbs due to premium finishes and heritage considerations

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Melbourne?

A standard full bathroom renovation in Melbourne typically costs between $18,000 and $35,000 depending on size, fixtures, and tile selection. Budget refreshes start around $10,000, while luxury renovations with premium materials can reach $60,000+. We provide fixed-price quotes so you know exactly what you’re paying before work starts. See our full cost guide for detailed pricing.

How long does a bathroom renovation take?

Most bathroom renovations take 3-6 weeks from demolition to handover. A small, straightforward bathroom might be done in 3 weeks. A larger bathroom with structural changes, custom tiling, or a layout redesign may take 5-6 weeks. We provide a clear timeline with your quote.

Do I need council approval for a bathroom renovation?

In most cases, no. Standard bathroom renovations (replacing fixtures, tiling, waterproofing) don’t require a building permit in Victoria. However, if you’re changing the building’s structure (removing load-bearing walls, altering external walls) or your home has a heritage overlay, you may need a permit. We’ll advise you during the consultation.

Do you handle all the trades?

Yes. We have licensed plumbers, electricians, tilers, waterproofers, plasterers, and painters on our team. You don’t need to coordinate anyone else – we manage everything.

Can you renovate while I’m still living in the house?

Absolutely. Most of our clients live in their homes during the renovation. We set up dust barriers, keep the site clean at the end of each day, and minimise disruption. If you have a second bathroom, you can use that during the work. If not, we prioritise getting the essential facilities (toilet, shower) operational as quickly as possible.

What’s included in your quote?

Everything: demolition, disposal, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing (with compliance certificate), tiling, fixture installation, painting, and cleanup. The only things not included are items you might add after quoting – like upgrading to a more expensive tap after we’ve started. We flag everything clearly.
